Information: Bluff Mountain Preserve is located in Ashe County, NC. The Preserve, owned by the Nature Conservancy, covers 2912 acres of “incredible beauty”. Unlike most wildlife areas, this preserve is not freely open to visitors. In order to gain access, you must enter the area with a local eco-tourist guide, Kim Hadley for her scheduled and private, fee-based tours. Reservations are required and can be made using the email listed above.
The hikes are a 3-mile loop through some pretty incredible habitat. Birds you may expect to find are the Black-throated Green Warbler, Veery, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Scarlet Tanager, and Blue-headed Vireo. During field trips to Bluff Mountain in the spring, visitors may hear the distinctive drumming of ruffed grouse.
