One of the hidden gems of Boone, is the Greenway Trail. This trail is 4 miles long and runs from one end of Boone to the other. There are multiple access points throughout the City, but the official start is near Pride Drive and Southgate Drive, at the Southgate Shopping Center. and now continues to Brookshire Park off Highway 421.
One of the more popular starting points for birding is the Clawson-Burnley Park, off Hunting Lane and State Farm Road. This area was once a residential area, but serious flooding resulted in mandatory evacuation of the residents by FEMA, and the demolition of the homes. Now it is a beautiful multi-use park, recreational complex, wetland area, and part of both the Greenway Trail system and the North Carolina Birding Trail.
